The world of cryptocurrency has made history again with the launch of the first XRP Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) in the United States. This innovative product, which is symbolized by the ticker symbol XXRP, officially went public on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) Arca on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

Brought by Teucrium Investment Advisors, an asset management company famous for its commodity portfolio, this move is a major achievement for XRP, one of the most popular altcoins in the crypto market.

This launch is not only a success for Teucrium, but also marks the entry of XRP into a more structured and regulated investment realm in the US. With the presence of this product, the door is wide open for other crypto assets to follow a similar path in the future.

Teucrium 2x Long Daily XRP ETF: Big Gains, Balanced Risks

Unlike conventional ETFs, the Teucrium 2x Long Daily XRP ETF offers the unique feature of double (2x) leverage on the daily movement of the XRP price. Currently, XRP is trading at around US$1.8. With this structure, if the price of XRP rises 1% in a day, investors in this ETF have the potential to earn a 2% profit. However, behind this opportunity, the risk is also doubled: a 1% drop in the price of XRP will cause a 2% loss for ETF holders.

According to information from the official Teucrium website, XXRP debuted with a net asset value of around US$2 million and an annual management fee of 1.85%. This product is designed for investors looking for short-term opportunities with greater exposure to XRP price movements, without having to own the crypto asset directly.

Positive Market Response and Sentiment

Teucrium CEO Sal Gilbertie, in an interview with Bloomberg on April 8, 2025, revealed that the launch was in response to growing investor demand. “We launched this product at the right time—when the price of XRP was relatively low and many investors were looking for quick opportunities,” he said.

Gilbertie also highlighted that positive sentiment towards XRP was growing stronger, especially after Ripple’s legal victory against the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in March 2025, which provided regulatory clarity for this altcoin.

The victory was indeed an important catalyst. After years of involvement in a dispute with the SEC over XRP’s status as a security, Ripple finally got the green light, strengthening its position in the market and attracting the interest of large financial institutions.

The Road to XRP Spot ETF?

Although XXRP is a leverage-based product, many see it as a first step towards approval of a spot-based XRP ETF—which would directly track the price of XRP without leverage.

Bloomberg senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas called the launch unusual. “This is the first time a crypto ETF has debuted in leveraged form. Usually, spot products appear first,” he wrote on the X platform on April 8, 2025.

Balchunas remains optimistic, estimating the chance of XRP Spot ETF approval in 2025 to reach 65%, although still below other altcoins such as Solana or Litecoin. Together with his partner, James Seyffart, he thinks that Teucrium’s move could be a positive signal for regulators.

Currently, a number of investment giants such as Grayscale, Bitwise, Franklin Templeton, Canary Capital, and 21Shares are awaiting the SEC’s decision on their XRP ETF application.

A New Era of Crypto Investment

The launch of XXRP on the NYSE Arca confirms that the wave of altcoin-based ETFs is gaining momentum in 2025. The XRP ETF is just the beginning of what is believed to be a major transformation in the world of investment.

With the listing of this product on a major stock exchange, other altcoins such as Ethereum, Solana, or even Dogecoin are likely to follow suit soon.

The market seems to be preparing to welcome a new era, where cryptocurrency is no longer just a tool for speculation, but an integral part of the global investment ecosystem. Teucrium’s move proves that crypto is now increasingly accepted as a legitimate asset, offering opportunities as well as challenges for investors around the world.
